Anglicare WA – Child Sexual Abuse Therapy Services

Provides assistance to children who have been sexually abused, are exhibiting sexualised behaviour or have enacted sexual abuse against others. Available to children up to the age of 18 years. Referral from Department of Child Protection must have been received before counselling commences. However if no referral has been received then service can be contacted to discuss options. The perpetrator of the child abuse must be removed from the child homes.

Provides free legal and community support services for Aboriginal families and individuals in  Western Australia. This includes legal advocacy, casework, court support and representation in matters related to family violence and sexual assault. They cannot act for perpetrators of violence. The legal matters they assist with include Violence Restraining Orders (VRO’s), criminal injuries compensation, and family law such as child recovery orders and parenting plans.

For post-separation families experiencing conflict over contact. A Children’s Contact Service aims to provide a safe, neutral, child focused environment in which visiting arrangements for children are facilitated. Children’s contact services help children and parents to maintain contact where contact visits are difficult because of high levels of conflict between the parents or concerns for the safety of family members. Our services provide a neutral location for transfer of the child between the parents and facilities for supervised contact visits where necessary.

Child Protection Unit Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH)

The Child Protection Unit is a specialised unit within Princess Margaret Hospital devoted to ensuring that all children are adequately protected whilst in hospital and upon discharge from hospital. We see cases not only where there are concerns of child abuse but also cases where long and short-term protection are issues of concern. Cases that would be appropriate for referral include:

  • Children who have injuries or have had previous injuries that may be inflicted injury eg. fractures, bruises, lacerations, burns.
  • Neglect e.g. physical, medical.
  • Children who have been or are thought to have been sexually abused by any person.
  • Non-organic failure to thrive.

Salvation Army – Bridge Program

The Salvation Army Bridge Program operates a sobering up centre and detoxification service in the inner-city.

The detoxification service provides a one week residential stay and operates to a supportive care model based on non-medical or low-medical interventions. Complex withdrawal cases, or those with severe symptoms are referred to medical services.

The Esther Foundation

Residential young women’s health, development and leadership program through ten residential premises based around South Perth, The program is full-time and offers intensive support and assistance to young women in a safe and structured environment.

The broadly structured program facilitates specific group and individual counselling for the following issues and concerns faced by young women:

  • substance abuse
  • sexual and emotional abuse
  • domestic violence
  • mental health
  • teenage pregnancy
  • self harming
  • eating disorders
  • family breakdown
  • depression

The criteria for assessment to enter the young women’s residential health, development and leadership program is that the prospective participant be aged between 13 – 33 years of age.

This free service assists Aboriginal carers and family where family members are experiencing emotional and mental distress.  Operated from the Aboriginal Evangelical Church, it is designed to provide respite and some ‘time out’ for participants once a month. Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline

The Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides support and counselling for women experiencing family and domestic violence. This includes phone counselling, information and advice, referral to local advocacy and support services, liaison with police if necessary and support in escaping situations of family and domestic violence.
