Aboriginal Family Law Services

Provides free legal and community support services for Aboriginal families and individuals in Western Australia. This includes legal advocacy, casework, court support and representation in matters related to family violence and sexual assault. They cannot act for perpetrators of violence. The legal matters they assist with include Violence Restraining Orders (VRO’s), criminal injuries compensation, and family law issues such as child recovery orders and parenting plans.

Anglicare WA – Child Sexual Abuse Therapy Services

Provides assistance to children who have been sexually abused, are exhibiting sexualised behaviours or have enacted sexual abuse against others. Available to children up to the age of 18 years. Referral from Department of Child Protection must have been received before counselling commences. However, if no referral has been received then the service can be contacted to discuss options. The perpetrator of the child abuse must be removed from the child homes.

Anglicare WA – Young Parents Support Program provides support, assistance and advocacy for at risk young people under the age of 25 years, who are pregnant or have children. The service offers outreach, where a worker meets you in your home or an out of office location. During these visits the worker may provide information and support, referral to other services, advocacy and informal counselling.

Anglicare WA – Children’s Contact Services

The Children’s Contact Service provides safe, secure and child focused environments in which children can continue to have a relationship with a parent or family member that they do not live with. We assist families with changeover and offer supervised visits. The Children’s Contact Service provide assistance with issues such as changeover services and assistance with supervised visits.

The service is designed to assist separated families who are concerned about the impact that ongoing arguments and stressful behaviours may be having on their children. In most circumstances families will use the Children’s Contact Service following the implementation of a Family Court Order or a Parenting Plan.

To arrange for either supervised visits or facilitated changeover both parents must phone their nearest service and organise an appointment. Both parents will be individually interviewed in order to complete an intake assessment form.

Anglicare WA Counselling

Counselling is offered by trained professionals who can assist with a wide variety of issues. Counselling can be provided to individuals, couples or families. Counselling is available at Anglicare sites across WA. Anglicare WA also offer telephone counselling for people who cannot attend in person, including those who live in rural or remote regions.

Anglicare WA Family Housing Program

The Family Housing Program is a transitional supported accommodation service that provides housing and support to families who wish to stabilise and actively engage in a support plan whilst being housed for up to twelve months. This service has accommodation throughout Perth Metropolitan area, with three and four bedroom homes close to schools, community facilities and public transport.

The program is for families who have two or more children under the age of 16 in their care and require supported medium-term housing. To meet the criteria for this program, families need to be on the Housing Authority waitlist and be eligible for the Bond Assistance Loan. Please note that this service operates a waitlist and during periods of high demand the waitlist may be closed to new applicants.

Family Relationship Centres provide assistance to families at any stage of their lives. The Centres are for all families in need of information and support in relation to family relationships and for those families who are  separated we offer family dispute resolution services.

Anglicare WA Making Ends Meet

Making Ends Meet provides financial assistance, support and education to working families who are living in private rental accommodation and experiencing significant housing stress. This includes the payment of grants to help pay bills, negotiate repayment plans and give you the skills to manage your budget.

The program is designed to give families in crisis a foundation upon which to build a financially stable future.

Making Ends Meet is for people who are:

  • renting privately (not through Homeswest)
  • have a family
  • are currently working
  • in stable accommodation for 6 months or more
  • paying an increasing amount for rent
  • living in the city of Mandurah or Rockingham or Cockburn, or the town of Kwinana
  • working with an Anglicare WA Financial Counsellor

The Salvation Army – Morley provides support to individuals and families facing a crisis to help them meet their immediate needs. The Salvation Army – Morley offers emergency relief services to help relieve the stresses faced by families and individuals in crisis.

The Compassionate Friend

The Compassionate Friend service is a self-help peer support group open to bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents. Its is a worldwide organisation run by volunteers, which aims to support families with the grief following the death of a child. Victim Support and Child Witness Service

Provides free emotional support and practical preparation for children under 18 years of age who are to give evidence to a court. The children involved can be victims or witnesses to any criminal charge, in any court. This includes the Magistrates Court, Children’s Court, District Court or Supreme Court. The court process can add to the stress of a child victim. However, ensuring they are adequately prepared as a witness can reduce their emotional stress and enable them to better participate in court proceedings.

WA No Interest Loans Network (NILS)

Recently merging with Anglicare WA; WA No Interest Loans Scheme (WA NILS) provides loans that are either ‘no interest’ or ‘low interest’ as well as affordable car and home contents insurance, and a matched savings scheme. Eligible clients can access a WA NILS loan of between $200 and $1,500 which has no interest, no fees and no charges attached to it.

Clients with a Healthcare Card, Pension or Veteran’s Affairs Card can apply, with loans mostly being used for essential household items and services.

This includes phone counselling, information and advice, referral to local advocacy and support services, liaison with police if necessary and support in escaping situations of family and domestic violence. The service can refer women to safe accommodation if required.
