Financial Counselling is for anyone seeking financial information. It is an inclusive service that is appropriate for people in a broad range of circumstances no matter where you live or how much you may earn.

Anglicare WA’s Financial Counsellors are qualified to:

  • Make assessment of financial situations
  • Provide information and options to address financial problems
  • Assist with resolutions if necessary
  • Advocate and negotiate with creditors
  • Make referrals to other useful services in the community
  • Provide information about government assistance that may be available
  • Support clients in developing their own budget

Anglicare WA Making Ends Meet

Making Ends Meet provides financial assistance, support and education to working families who are living in private rental accommodation and experiencing significant housing stress. This includes the payment of grants to help pay bills, negotiate repayment plans and give you the skills to manage your budget.

The program is designed to give families in crisis a foundation upon which to build a financially stable future.

Making Ends Meet is for people who are:

  • renting privately (not through Homeswest)
  • have a family
  • are currently working
  • in stable accommodation for 6 months or more
  • paying an increasing amount for rent
  • living in the city of Mandurah or Rockingham or Cockburn, or the town of Kwinana
  • working with an Anglicare WA Financial Counsellor

Ascension Emergency Relief

Provides food parcels, advocacy, referrals and a listening ear to those in need. Open from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Fridays, requests can also be made for baby food and toiletries, and a sausage sizzle is provided.

Blue Sky Community Group

Provides financial counselling, advocacy and negotiation, family support and information on tenancy, Centrelink issues and advocacy. Also provides programs and emergency relief. They work with a diverse cultural and ethnic background, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from CaLD backgrounds, disabilities, and people with diverse sexuality and gender identities. This service can be accessed if you live in the post codes 6054 6063, which includes Ashfield, Bassendean, Eden Hill, Lockridge, Kiara or Beechboro. The services is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Provides information, options, support and advocacy to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and skills to take control of their own financial situation. MercyCare Lending Services

Offers affordable and manageable interest free loans to help clients build a better life for thelmselves, and their families. The loan is aimed at helping people kick-start their future and create the life they are hoping for, can be used for a range of employment, training and education items. To be eligible, clients must be 18 years or over, an Australian resident with a health care card or a low income earner, able to show proof they can repay the loan and able to provide all documentation required for processing the loan.

Provides information, options, support and advocacy to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and skills to take control their own financial situation. MIDLAS also offers a free legal service on assisting victims of family and domestic violence. Free financial counselling across Australia. It aims to help vulnerable individuals and families across a range of income levels manage their money, overcome financial adversity, participate in their communities and plan for the medium to long term. The service provides referrals for face to face counselling.

Salvation Army – Financial Counselling Service

The service case manages around 15 people at a time, who have found themselves facing financial hardship. The service teaches life skills in budgeting and provides paralegal support to clients requiring this service. Advocacy is a key function of this service. The Financial Counsellor works closely with Family Support Services and the Family Accommodation Programme.

Salvation Army – Morley

The Salvation Army – Morley provides support to individuals and families facing a crisis to help them meet their immediate needs. The Salvation Army – Morley offers emergency relief services to help relieve the stresses faced by families and individuals in crisis.

Once your immediate needs have been met, the service can also help with talking to utility providers about any outstanding bills, help connect with Centrelink about getting a job, talk to police, or recommend other support services.

The Salvation Army – Morley provide other services including:

  • Mainly Music – for carers of preschool aged children to meet with other parents and enjoy a fun time of music with the children followed by a social time with refreshments for the adults.

WA No Interest Loans Network (NILS)

Recently merging with Anglicare WA; WA No Interest Loans Scheme (WA NILS) provides loans that are either ‘no interest’ or ‘low interest’ as well as affordable car and home contents insurance, and a matched savings scheme. Eligible clients can access a WA NILS loan of between $200 and $1,500 which has no interest, no fees and no charges attached to it.

Clients with a Healthcare Card, Pension or Veteran’s Affairs Card can apply, with loans mostly being used for essential household items and services.

Youth Legal Service provides free professional legal services to children and young people (under 25 years) residing in Western Australia.
